Off-Season Strength Training

In an effort to provide you with some specific strength training benefits, I have developed the following. As always, adjust as necessary to meet your fitness level and time constraints.

The following is a program of building strength during your off-season. The design is to build pure strength with expected muscle mass and weight gain. If you are concerned about gaining weight, I recommend the use of Resistance and Endurance only for building strength without[Read More]

Compex – Which Model Is Right For Me?

Deciding which Compex model you should buy is something I suggest you spend some time on. I thought it would be helpful if I listed the features of each model with additional insight to help you make your decision.

I feel your choice should be based on what you can afford coupled with the features you will most likely benefit from and use frequently. The bottom line is you can’t go wrong with whichever model… [Read More]

Documented Muscle Mass Gains Using Compex EMS

Compex Sport “Strength” Program 2010

I did a 3 month off season strength program this winter using my Compex Sport. I ran this program on my quads only. As you can see by the table, my muscle mass gain was pretty significant for a 48 year old. The photos at the right show you visually how effective this training is.

I’ve been able to get out on the bike early this year and I already… [Read More]

I took a few photos of my latest Compex strength training workout.

I’m slowly working my way up to 100mA and I’ve been gaining muscle mass and weight steadily. I started at 170 lbs and I’m just over 175 now! I’ll be up to 100mA next week at which point I’ll redo my video and post others that should be helpful for you with your workouts and recovery.

Compex and Sprained Ankle

I rolled my ankle last summer and was diagnosed with a severe sprain. It was very painful and swelled up immediately after it happened. I was afraid it was broken.

The doctor x-rayed it and saw that it was just a severe sprain. They told me it would be 3 to 4 weeks before I would be able to walk on it. They gave me a boot cast that I put on to get home… [Read More]

Compex Strength At 35mA

I did another Compex Strength workout yesterday at 35mA for the most part. I was even able to hit 40mA for the last 2 minutes to get me ready for tomorrow.

The muscle contractions start to get pretty intense at 40mA. This is also as high as I’ll be able to go just sitting in a chair. From this point forward, I’ll need to be on the weight bench to keep my legs from straightening… [Read More]

Joe’s Compex Strength progress

I am using my Compex EMS for off season strength training again. I’m 48 now so it’s going to be interesting to see if my muscle development is different than in previous years. I don’t do weight training in the gym anymore as the Compex is far more effective at building muscle than anything else I have ever done.

If you haven’t already done so, I suggest you read my Compex 101 Article before you… [Read More]
